Day:
  • Cavusin
When approaching this settlement, a huge cliff stands out. This rock mass consists of hundreds of sections such as houses, churches and monk cells. In ancient times, people in the Cappadocia region carved their houses into these rocks and turned them into a living space due to the softness of the rock formations in the region. The Cavusin campus is one of the oldest settlements that can be shown as an example. People continued to live here until about 1950, but due to years of wear, some places were destroyed, and then there was a much greater collapse. Thus, the people living here continued to live by building stone structures against this rock mass called the old Cavusin.
  • Pasabaglari Ruins
It has become one of the most popular travel spots with the most intense view of rock formations called fairy chimneys and the scenery it offers. The hermitage rooms carved into these fairy chimneys are important examples reflecting the lifestyle of the monks. There is also a chapel dedicated to St. Simon. Saint Simon lived for 37 years in a small hermitage built on a high column and became famous for his miracles. After his death, his followers who believed in his teachings formed a new trend and this group was named Stylites (saints living on the column). Some monks who came to the Cappadocia region lived a life similar to the mystical lifestyle of St. Simon, who lived in small cells they built on high fairy chimneys.
